Platinum Ruby and Diamond Buckle Ring

With its playful buckle design and vivid flash of ruby, this beautifully made platinum ring has both character and quiet sophistication. Fine millegrain edges frame the broad band, while four round brilliant cut diamonds lend a delicate sparkle to the sculptural buckle and shoulders.

Crafted in platinum 900, the 5.4 mm wide ring is rim-set with an approximately 4.3 × 4.0 mm pear-shaped ruby weighing 0.42 carat. Four diamonds have a combined weight of 0.06 carat, graded in the mount as G–H colour and SI clarity. The ring weighs 6.6 grams and is currently size M.

Buckle-form rings have medieval precedents, but during the nineteenth century the Victorians turned the buckle into a particularly strong sentimental jewellery motif. The act of fastening suggested fidelity, constancy and two people bound together, making buckle rings especially appropriate as tokens of love, friendship and commitment.
